56 Esteem the works you have to do in the service of the sick.

57. This service of love is as old as the Church. Hardly had Christ established the Church, then He enriched it with many more gifts of "Gratis Sanitatum".

58 In serving the sick, you become like instruments of Divine Providence and of the redemptive work of Christ. As Christ came into the world to help souls, so do you live to help bodies, and by this means you make souls receptive to the sanctifying works of grace.

PURITY

59. Those who care for the sick should be careful to keep their purity of heart. The heart is the home from whence loving care flows. The spirit breathes where He wills. He Himself chooses whom he wishes to gratify. Him by a brilliant purity, continual prayer and an intense religious life?

PATIENCE

60. Patience is inseparable from love.

61. Contemplate this and study it in the person of Jesus Christ. He hoped to be glorified, but while waiting, He carried His cross despite the shame He experienced. He came to sinners, desiring to cure all their wounds of soul, but they refused Him, and He allowed them to do so.

62. Don't let the little faults of your patients discourage you. You haven't got to give your life's blood as He did. He gave His life for His friends. It is by this that we know of His love. We must also give up our lives for our brethren, giving it to them day by day.
